Get up in the morning, eat cereal, go to work, get back home, eat some dinner, watch TV, go to sleep…Does this sound like your life? It’s a drop dead striking reflection of what’s been happening in mine. This isn’t me whining; I have a great life. I love my job, I’ve got everything I need, a family, loads of friends, a support system..
But doesn’t it feel like something is missing still? Shouldn’t life be more than just a dull routine? Shouldn’t it have more meaning? So, I started searching. I started digging up things, looking for a purpose in life. I began reading a whole bunch from the tons of resources available online. Multiple perspectives, different ideas, case after case, the world of free thought is pretty much exploding online at the moment.
This is what I ended up with.
We were all put on this earth for a purpose. Having said that, there are two kinds of people; One group who succumb to the mediocrity of life and sink in or Two, people who always yearn for more and go hunting for a meaning. If you’re still reading this post, you’re in the second category! While we seek a purpose, you need to understand that we’re all wired to do something. That could be science or designing or engineering or closing deals or working with tech, you keep doing that. A purpose driven life doesn’t necessarily mean that you quit your day job and go around throwing your weight on others to bear.
Once God and Moses were having a conversation near a burning bush and Moses was standing there afraid, confused and lost. God had just told him to pretty much go stand in front of a moving train. That’s what it would be like to go back to Egypt and stand before the Pharaoh asking him to release all the slaves. And this is what God said to this fearful man, “What’s in your hand?”. He had a staff and God asked him to lay it down. His staff was a symbol of his Income, Identity and Influence as he herded cattle. When he gave this up, it turned into a snake and freaked the life out of Pharaoh and his minions.
What do you have in your hand? Health, Influence, Finances, Time, Ideas, Skills, it could be anything. Just like the boy who gave his 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish to Jesus and He fed 5000 people with it, lay down what’s in your hand. Once you identify what you have and give it to Jesus, you’re going to see your ordinary skill transformed into something extraordinary. God’s got an extremely detailed master plan for your life and this is just step 1. Identify what you have and give up control. You were born to leave a significant mark and make a difference. Holding on to your gifts are just plain useless. Releasing them gets you one step closer to creating an impact by elevating someone else’s life.
This is me taking my first step and using my ability to write. What’s in your hand?
Hope you have a Brilliant day ahead! 🙂
